Smoothies are a trendy thing these days. Blenders are only getting better, which massively improves the texture and makes it much tastier. However, it is not that simple.

The primary issue with smoothies is that even though it contains all-natural ingredients, this way of eating is not very natural for our bodies. For example, a smoothie made with 2 apples and a banana is easy to drink. Still, no one, in reality, could eat 2 apples and a banana in one sitting. You would be very full. Considering that you would typically add other ingredients to it, like nuts and milk, it could become quite a calorific meal.

Another thing to watch out for is fiber. If you don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables each day, consuming smoothies may help achieve your fiber goal. On the other hand, if you have issues with digestion or gastritis, you need to be very careful with raw fiber in large quantities.

If you are buying a smoothie, make sure it does not contain added sugars. It is also better if it includes more vegetables than fruits, as fruits have a lot of natural sugars.

Suppose you are considering smoothies for breakfast or as a meal substitute. In that case, you need to make sure they contain an appropriate amount of proteins and fats, as fruits are primarily carbohydrates. That way you will get a balanced meal.

Bottom line: if you like smoothies, it is ok to incorporate them into your balanced and varied diet. They should not be consumed several times a day, and unquestionably pure smoothie diets are a no-no.
